WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL PATTERNS
Functional Patterns is a training methodology that was founded in 2006 by CEO Naudi Aguilar. Naudi has conducted seminars globally certifying practitioners like us. We confidently say that Functional Patterns is the best in the fitness industry. Take a look at the results achieved world wide by our FP practitioners.
TRAINING FOR HUMANS
Unlike any other point in human history, the greatest health crisis we face as a species is the imbalances that exist within our modern society and our misalignment with nature. This has had a substantial impact on our movement capabilities, as we’ve shifted our daily practices from their roots in natural processes, towards sociocultural processes.
THE BLUEPRINT
There’s an evolutionary blueprint to all organisms, and FUNCTIONAL PATTERNS has been cracking the code in human movement for nearly 18 years. Resulting from tens of thousands of hours in testing, we have pioneered the FP methodology, syncing the physics of our natural environment to our health, better than any other system out there.

Our conclusion has been to train humans according to their biological movement characteristics: Standing, Walking, Running, and Throwing — The “FP Big 4”. By optimising these four human functions, achieving better health is not a gamble, but an inevitability. Our results speak for themselves.
This is what it means to train FUNCTIONAL PATTERNS!
THE TRAINING METHODOLOGY
The Functional Patterns methodology seeks to identify and correct imbalances and inefficient biomechanical movements in the human body. These imbalances and inefficient movement patterns, are often times the cause of chronic pain and poor posture. By respecting the human evolutionary blueprint of movement - Standing, Walking, Running and Throwing, the Functional Patterns methodology helps to restore balance, improve postural alignment and correct movement patterns, which leads to eliminating pain and improving everyday movement.
To identify and correct imbalances and inefficient biomechanics in the body the Functional Patterns methodology uses THREE main modalities:
THE INITIAL CONSULTATION
One purpose of the Initial Consultation is to help IDENTIFY IMBALANCES.
We often have pain in the body because of these imbalances. Our muscles get tight and dehydrated, and joints get achy because the body is out of balance.

To help us identify them, we look at the body's static posture and conduct a gait cycle analysis. We'll photograph your standing posture from each side and take slow-motion video recordings of you walking/running (usually on a treadmill) of your gait cycle. Together, we'll discuss these findings and show you how the Functional Patterns system works to address any inefficiencies, allowing you to optimise your health and/or overcome pain.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE
The next step is to RELEASE.
Learn how self-myofascial release - a self-massage technique that involves applying pressure to the body’s myofascial tissues - can be a useful tool to not only help manage pain and tightness but how it can open the door to improving your posture and movement.

CORRECTIVE EXERCISE
The last modality is Corrective Exercise and its purpose is to:

(i) REPOSITION AND STABILISE.
(ii) STRENGTHEN AND MOVE.

Initially, the focus of the corrective exercises is to bring more balance into the body. Employing a variety of techniques and equipment, you will learn how to correctly stand, before learning the foundational movement patterns.

Once you have learned the foundational movements, the focus will turn to strengthening these new movement patterns. This is about pinpointing incorrect techniques (i.e. dysfunction) and setting new habits (creating quality movement) to ensure you are using the correct muscles in the prescribed exercise.

As the body develops, more complex, dynamic and challenging exercises will be introduced, resulting in your whole body connecting and functioning again as a complete unit.
